We had Chanti for only a short time (under a year) and realised she had been put into foal obviously
before we bought her. After numerous attempts to contact the previous owner and failing, it was
left upon us to do alot of guess work.
Although a loving and caring little soul, she was always ready with a little mischief - either
escaping from the field and trotting off down the road to munch on some poor unsuspecting flower
bed, or ripping out the electric fencing!
a week before her passing she was showing signs of labour, so me and a friend camped out all night
with her waiting. By morning nothing had come of it so we called the vet who diagnosed mild colic,
gave her some drugs and went away. During the day still no better and after calling the vet out 3
times, she had started to drool heavily so she was then admitted to a veterinary equine hospital.
We were kept updated with her progress but informed that it was looking like an illness called grass
sickness which to this day I still do not understand.
We were called again on the morning of May 17th to say Chanti had given birth to a rather large
chestnut filly whom I named Rain but Chanti was struggling to accept her.
I travelled with my friend to see her and what I saw shocked me to the bone. She was no longer the
pony I had admitted there. Shaking, head bowed, dull and lifeless eyes. I knew then she wouldnt be
coming home. She didnt accept Rain and ended up being seperated as she was getting rather violent
with her. We left with the words "she's eaten again and its looking up" but I didnt believe.
At 11pm that same night , I received a phone call asking for my permission to put Chanti to sleep as
she was suffering a haemhorrage and fits and tests has shown the brain was not reacting. I didnt
even have time to get to ger which still breaks my heart to this day.
I will never forget Chanti or the joy she bought into our lives - the companionship she gave to my
daughter and me. We all miss her sweetness and hugs terribly.

Beyond the Rainbow
As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful -- lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.
